Fun Stuff Happening in May of 2024 in Fishers, Indiana

May is when the local public schools let out for the summer and when summer fun activities start happening around the city. There are several fun activities happening that need volunteers to help; however, even if you don’t have time to volunteer, the events might be ones you’ll enjoy.

Farmers Market

The Fishers Farmers Market starts up in May and lasts through September. These occur each Saturday morning in the downtown area starting May 4th from 8:00am until noon. The market general contains fresh, local foods and items from farmers and producers in the area. Items can include fresh produce, baked goods, honey, specialty food items, meats, cheeses, coffee, plants, and more. Volunteers are often needed as well. You can find what volunteers are needed here.

Touch a Truck

Touch a Truck is a recurring event that draws the kids to the downtown area. This year’s event is on May 21st at the Nickel Plate District Amphitheater from 4:30pm to 7:30pm. It is a chance for kids to get up close and touch a variety of fun vehicles including police cars, fire trucks, snowplows, tractors, and more. There are live demonstrations including K-9 exercises, a fire department rope rescue demo, and a streets department street paving as well as a variety of kid activities. The Fishers Parks department will have food vendors there as well. You can find out more at https://fishersin.gov/our-city/touch-a-truck/.

The touch-a-truck event also uses volunteers from the community. You can find open volunteer roles and a sign up here.

Buckets at Brook School

New this year is Buckets at Brook School which is a basketball tournament for ages 16+ and a 3-Point contest for ages 8+ on Saturday, May 18th at Brook School Park from 9:00am to 3:00pm. This event celebrates the new murals that the city has placed on the basketball courts. For the basketball tournament, it is double-elimination 3-on-3. Note that there is a fee for these events.

There will also, however, be other activities at these events including a craft booth, inflatables, and a paint by number wall art. Volunteers are needed to help with these activities. You can find more on volunteering for this here.

Other Volunteer Opportunities

There will be other fun events and volunteer activities throughout the rest of the summer as well including things such as Spark! Fishers, The Geist marathon, and more. For those looking to volunteer, there are also none-event times and activities around town where you can volunteer.
